Progress on the House

When G-man and I got married March 2009, we were going to fix up his great grand father's house. This house is over 100 years old. This was going to be a great project, right? Instead of registering for wedding gifts we asked people to give us gifts cards for Lowes and Home Depot. We got enough gift cards to get the bedroom done before we got married. Yay!

Now, before any of you get to excited, let me explain what the house was like. In 1990, his grand mother past away. Even before she past several things needed to be repaired but never got repaired. Since she has past, nothing got repair until G-man and I got engaged. The entire house needed a make over! His grand mother's things were still in the house and had not been gone through. The living room had a huge hole in the floor. In the bathroom, the tub had no handles to turn the water on and the toilet was very wobble. The dinner area was FULL of stuff and tin over the window. The kitchen cabinets were falling apart and it was full of stuff. The extra bedroom was slam full of stuff and need many repairs. The flooring though out the house needed repairing! We also needed a new roof. There is also no central heating and air.

One day KK and I tried to clean out the kitchen we filled about 5 or 6 of the large lawn trash bags and still there was stuff. We only threw away what we could see was no good! In the hall, I threw away many clothes that were covered in cob webs. I figured that since the stuff was no good and covered in cob webs it had not been used in some time! I sure felt bad throwing away stuff that I had never seen before and didn't know who it belonged to. But that didn't make much headway.

After we got married we soon ran out of money to repair the house. Thus the repairs stopped. I was sad and became depressed. G-Man and I both worked at the time but we worked different shifts. He worked 7am-4pm and I work 11am-8pm. This was wearing on me. I was used to a 8-4 job, but when I moved back to FL from MI this was the only place I could find a job. I stayed there as long as I could. After I quit that job, G-Man started looking for a different job so we could live is a better place. We moved to GA and We were both working about the same shifts. I then found out I was pregnant and continued to work until I was put on maternity leave by my midwife. After I had my son I gave my notice to be a stay at home mom.

G-Man told me that he wanted to move back home to FL. We talked about it a lot and decided that it was best to move back home. It would help us financially since I was not working. Shortly before we were to move, I found out I was pregnant again!

Since we have been back we have been living with G-Man's parents. The house has made much progress; however, we still cannot live then yet. Of course our room was completed before we got married. Baby 1's room is done: new walls, floor, insulation, windows, closet, carpet and curtains. The nursery is done: new walls, insulation, closet, and carpet. The living room is almost done: new floor and carpet. Hopefully the window will be in soon and the paneling to be put in the ceiling will be done soon. The bathroom has new floor, walls and window. The flooring will be put in soon then we can put in the toilet and vanity. The other rooms still need a lot of work. We are getting there but it is a long and sometime frustrating process!
